ASSESSMENT
How do you know your child is bright when you have no comparisons. Are you simply biassed?
What about:
- your child’s behaviours at home and / or school?
- your child’s attitudes at home and / or school?
- your relationship with your child’s school or teacher?
- your child’s relationship with his / her teacher?
- your relationship with your child?
What is a CHIP Assessment?
The assessment tool advised for CHIP is the Stamford Binet Form 5. This is conducted one-on-one by a qualified psychologist and is designed to assess a child’s potential to learn. It is not a timed test, but generally takes between an hour and an hour and a half. Parents are asked to fill out a Parent Background Form but PLEASE do not stress about this. Fill out what you can. Ignore what you don't like. Add extra information if you think it could be useful.
The psychologist will not be in a position to discuss the results on the day. A written report will be sent to you within 3 weeks. Parents do not stay with the child but can be nearby. Or they can go for a walk!
If you would like to discuss the report, this can be done at a follow-up consultation at a charge of $150 per hour.
Visits/consultations with schools can also be arranged also at $150 per hour plus a travel charge if the school is outside the Melbourne central area.
Other tests - eg WISC, WIPSI, ACER .... are available on request.
Tests are conducted in Richmond at either 9.30 or 11.30 am on weekdays. Please cancel, even at the last minute, if your chid is not 'at his best'. There is no charge for cancellation but we would appreciate as musch notice as is possible.
$550 per test.
What do I get from the process?
Following the test, the psychologist will prepare a comprehensive report focused on your child’s ability to learn. Is your child reaching his/her potential and, if not, what can be done about it?
Areas covered are:
- Fluid Reasoning
- Knowledge
- Quantitative Reasoning
- Visual-Spatial processing
- Working Memory
The report will be forwarded to you by mail within three weeks.
